Building sports schools in Andean farmer communities

Sinkumunchis is an 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that stands for developing soccer in quechua speaking communities in high Andean regions of Peru

Our mission: To restructure and promote sports in Peru through sports programs with an intercultural approach.

Our vision: To develop people through sports, championing the culture and values of high Andean regions

QUECHUA language developed and evolved in high andean territory aproximately since 20,000 A.C and went through a process of adaptation until becoming Inca’s Empire (or “Tahuantinsuyo”) native language. Many anthrolopists support the idea that this is the only idiom that holds a communication based on the receptor/listener point of view, which makes it an “emphatic language”.

¿Why do we care? We believe it is crucial to empower native high andean communities for reedeming a high value cultural legacy, which more over the important archeological remains, still runs through our veins and is insterted in the dialogue among communities in a multicultural country like Perú.

Projects

Pisac - Sinkumunchis School

This is the first Sinkumunchis project. It was raised after the experience in the Chahuaytire Rural Community (Cusco) and its Copa Perú districtal club (San José), participating in various tournaments and achieving 1st place in the inter-community female absolut category (Pisac) and interdistrict (San Salvador).

Today the project is carried out at Centro Poblado Cuyo Grande , with an average attendance of 100 students per day and involving 4 local communities: Cuyo Grande, Chahuaytire, Sacaca and Pampallacta.

Maras - Sinkumunchis School

The largest Sinkumunchis project is developed in Centro Poblado Chequerec (Maras district) and involving directly its 5 annexes: Cruzpata, Ccollana Alta, Ccollana Baja, Marcahuasi and Huaypo; and indirectly to Centro Poblado Huatata (Chinchero district) and the rest of the Maras rural communities.

The program began in mid-2022 and already has an average daily attendance of 150 students.

Huayllabamba - Sinkumunchis School

The third branch of Sinkumunchis, Huayllabamba, is located in the heart of the Sacred Valley. The location makes it more accessible for the arrival of students and teachers, and currently, it welcomes students from Huayoccari, Huycho, Urquillos, Yucay, Urubamba, Arin, Calca, among others. The program started in September 2023, and within a month and a half, it already has more than 200 registered students with an average daily attendance of 110-130 students
